Ohlone Humane Society

Ohlone Humane Society (OHS) is a 501(c)(3) animal welfare nonprofit advocating for all creatures, from urban wildlife to companion animals. While OHS doesn’t operate a shelter, we’re one of the few humane societies to maintain a wildlife rehabilitation center.

Ohlone Humane Society serves the areas of Fremont, Newark and Union City, areas known for their diversity and sharing of cultural events, practices and sense of community. To support an inclusive environment where everyone feels empowered to share their experiences and ideas, OHS has developed a diversity, equity and inclusion policy to reflect our values and confirm that our practices align with the issues faced by the communities we serve. Our policy promotes inclusion rather than exclusion, celebrates different lifestyles rather than discouraging them, and facilitates applications for our volunteer and employee positions, animal care, governance, and team building.

Founded in 1983, OHS began as a group of volunteers dedicated to bettering the lives of shelter animals. Since those early days, OHS continues to be a volunteer-run group and has expanded its programs and services to benefit the animals and our community. Our programs range from pet therapy teams visiting senior care facilities, libraries and schools to fostering kittens, assisting the public with funding for veterinary services, and providing pet food and supplies to help our unhoused community keep their pets and families together.
