Woof! Meow! One thing before you go…
Do you need to find a loving home for your pet?
Shelters are often inundated with pet surrenders, and do not want to provide a simple outlet that takes away the obligation of responsible pet ownership. Therefore, they would prefer that people try hard to find a solution before resorting to surrendering their pet to a shelter. If you must find a new home for a pet, please try posting to our adoption portal before placing the burden on the shelter. Direct adoptions work well and allow everyone to share in the accountability of their community!

Adoptable Pets in California

Animal Refugee Response is committed to NO-KILL. We believe in finding alternatives to destroying animals. We do not condone animal euthanasia due to advanced age, disability, health condition or lack of space. We believe that every life is a precious gift.
For seven years Animal Refugee Response operated a strictly NO-KILL shelter in San Pablo, California. We provided a safe place and the found loving homes for thousands of animals who would have been euthanized over the years.
While we still have adoptable animals, we are now focusing on special needs animals and have opened a small sanctuary in Lake County where disabled and elderly dogs and cats have a safe and loving place to live their lives with the special care they need.
