Shelters are often inundated with pet surrenders, and do not want to provide a simple outlet that takes away the obligation of responsible pet ownership. Therefore, they would prefer that people try hard to find a solution before resorting to surrendering their pet to a shelter. If you must find a new home for a pet, please try posting to our adoption portal before placing the burden on the shelter. Direct adoptions work well and allow everyone to share in the accountability of their community!

The Central Coast SPCA is a private, non-profit no-kill animal welfare organization dedicated to saving homeless cats and dogs, and other companion animals; to providing lifesaving care and treatment to those animals in need; to take in adoptable animals from local high-risk facilities in Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo Counties; to help pets stay in loving homes with training and behavior classes; and to cultivate respect and awareness for the rights and needs of companion animals.

  • Hello, I recently visited the central coast and was dining at a place at the beach and noticed a super-duper sweet dog with a puppy face. I asked an employee whose dog ? the employee replied that it had no owner and had been hanging around for close to a year (further that people were afraid to call on him/her for fear of the dog being put down.) I wished I could have done more, like started a donation jar for passersby (hindsight!) Do you have any connections in Cayucos, Ca.? Specifically along the Cayucos Drive at the Pier?
