Woof! Meow! One thing before you go…
Do you need to find a loving home for your pet?
Shelters are often inundated with pet surrenders, and do not want to provide a simple outlet that takes away the obligation of responsible pet ownership. Therefore, they would prefer that people try hard to find a solution before resorting to surrendering their pet to a shelter. If you must find a new home for a pet, please try posting to our adoption portal before placing the burden on the shelter. Direct adoptions work well and allow everyone to share in the accountability of their community!

Wilkes Rescue Group (WRG) is a volunteer based, non-profit organization serving Wilkes County that is dedicated to saving neglected, abused and abandoned dogs. Dogs from surrounding counties or other areas that have compelling situations where they are in danger of abuse, neglect, or euthanasia will also be served by WRG.
WRG places dogs into temporary foster homes where they are socialized, spayed/neutered, vaccinated, micro-chipped, started on prevention medications and treated for any illnesses or behavioral conditions that would limit their adoptability.
WRG will always assist dogs in distress without regard to age, breed, health or ease of placement. To the extent that finances allow, dogs in the greatest need will take priority.
WRG actively searches for permanent homes for its foster dogs through a comprehensive adoption process. WRG strives to always place dogs in loving, committed, permanent homes that understand the responsibility and costs associated with owning a dog. WRG will be a model rescue through integrity, transparency, compassion and dedication with the ultimate goal always being that every dog knows what it feels like to be loved.
