Do you need to find a loving home for your pet?
Shelters are often inundated with pet surrenders, and do not want to provide a simple outlet that takes away the obligation of responsible pet ownership. Therefore, they would prefer that people try hard to find a solution before resorting to surrendering their pet to a shelter. If you must find a new home for a pet, please try posting to our adoption portal before placing the burden on the shelter. Direct adoptions work well and allow everyone to share in the accountability of their community!

P.A.W.S. is an Indiana not-for-profit corporation doing business in Hancock County. We are not affiliated with any national organization. The Internal Revenue Service has recognized P.A.W.S. as a 501(c)(3) organization. This means that donations made to P.A.W.S. are deductible as provided in sec. 107 of the Internal Revenue Code. P.A.W.S. programs are funded completely from memberships, donations, grants and fundraising events.
MISSION
To promote animal welfare in Hancock County through humane education and pet population control by:
* Developing and providing humane education programs that teach kindness to and respect for all living things.
* Helping animals housed in animal care shelters by promoting shelter adoptions and by providing improvements to shelter facilities, training for shelter staff and volunteers.
* Promoting shelter and community based pet sterilization programs.

* We believe all life has value and that animals have an inherent right to live free of cruelty. Their unconditional love and nonjudgmental companionship enhances the human condition.
* Education is the cornerstone of all we do. We will teach that all life is connected and that animals are entitled to humane treatment, protection and welfare.
* Animals cannot speak for themselves, therefore we must. We will promote animal advocacy within the rules of politeness, decency and the law.
* We will maintain a reputation of credibility and trust through uncompromising compassion and professionalism.
* We will practice sound business principles; stable and controlled growth, ongoing planning, continual evaluation and quality control processes.
