Woof! Meow! One thing before you go…
Do you need to find a loving home for your pet?
Shelters are often inundated with pet surrenders, and do not want to provide a simple outlet that takes away the obligation of responsible pet ownership. Therefore, they would prefer that people try hard to find a solution before resorting to surrendering their pet to a shelter. If you must find a new home for a pet, please try posting to our adoption portal before placing the burden on the shelter. Direct adoptions work well and allow everyone to share in the accountability of their community!

BCHS strives for a community where all animals are valued and treated with respect. All animals that come to the shelter are re-homed, regardless of how long it takes and no animals are euthanized due to lack of space or funds.
We hold the Brown County Animal Control contract, but we are not a government agency and receive no funds from any national animal welfare organizations. We are not associated with the Humane Society of the United States.
Our community outreach program has reduced the number of animals coming into the shelter by 49% and the BCHS has been nationally recognized as a successful rural shelter with an outstanding save rate of 99%, compared to a national average of 60%.
