We are a no-kill, non-profit, animal rescue and sanctuary. Providing help and homes for canines from across the state of Indiana and some surrounding states. The care, feeding, love, and emotional support for the dogs comes from the director, her husband, and a small group of faithful volunteers. Dr. Scott Royer of Worthington, Indiana and his staff provide all veterinary care for the residents here.
We do not receive government funding. The monetary amount required to run this rescue has to be generated from donations, adoption fees and fundraising activities. As everyone knows, times are hard and the economy is in a terrible state. Individual donations are down, grants are more difficult to secure and in-kind donations from companies/suppliers are at an all time low.

Before adoption, each OLBH canine is spayed or neutered - it's REQUIRED!

OLBH is a RESCUE & a SANCTUARY in that it hosts FOREVER FOSTER programs for all breeds, handicaps, and ages.
Foster Care ★★★★★ 5 average

OLBH has 60+ foster homes across Central Indiana and we NEED MORE to get the senior dogs out of the kennel environment. Fostering rehabilitates dogs by placing them in normal home environments and makes them easier to get adopted!
Comprehensive Adoption Programs ★★★★★ 5 average

OLBH has a thorough adoption application process that guarentees success in an adoption. If the family circumstances change, then we always welcome our OLBH dog back to our home.
Pet Retention ★★★★★ 5 average

OLBH is always willing to work with families during hard times, and to pursue grants for them to assist them financially with vet bills or specialty diets.
Medical and Behavior Programs ★★★★★ 5 average

It is OLBH's policy to accept all canines, no matter their breed, or medical condition. Each canine receives a medical evaluation and vaccination upon entering the OLBH system.
Public Relations/Community Involvement ★★★★★ 5 average

OLBH is constantly working on these areas through fundraising events, collaboration with other animal welfare groups, and social media.
Volunteers ★★★★★ 5 average

Animal Welfare Volunteers are like no other - compassion is there middle name! OLBH has a dedicated group of volunteers who work tirelessly for the dogs.

Another way of looking at this would be to pass a law requiring all pets to be microchipped. OLBH microchips all of the dogs when they enter our system, so that in the future if it were to get loose from an adopter, OLBH would be notified.
A Compassionate Director ★★★★★ 5 average

OLBH was founded and is directed by a VERY compassionate woman who started our shelter from scratch 26 yrs. ago! She is a pleasure to work with and a wonderful role model!
