Do you need to find a loving home for your pet?
Shelters are often inundated with pet surrenders, and do not want to provide a simple outlet that takes away the obligation of responsible pet ownership. Therefore, they would prefer that people try hard to find a solution before resorting to surrendering their pet to a shelter. If you must find a new home for a pet, please try posting to our adoption portal before placing the burden on the shelter. Direct adoptions work well and allow everyone to share in the accountability of their community!

Our Mission
TAILS Humane Society is a community-owned, not-for-profit charitable organization dedicated to addressing the root causes of animal abuse and overpopulation in DeKalb County, Illinois.
To this end, TAILS will:
Provide temporary shelter and emergency services for homeless, abandoned, and abused animals.
Be a preferred source for adoptions of dogs, cats, and exotic pets by qualified owners.
Provide rehabilitation services for wildlife.
Educate the citizens of DeKalb County regarding the proper care of companion animals, the importance of spaying and neutering, and the importance of compassionate treatment of animals to the quality of life in the community.
Utilize best practices in the housing, care, and adoption of homeless and abused animals and in providing community education regarding animal care.
Collaborate with other agencies, organizations, and businesses to maximize the quality and range of care and services for animals.
