Established as an independent organization in 2015, Hospice Hearts is an all-volunteer, foster-based animal rescue in Central Illinois. We provide care to cats and dogs whose owners are no longer able to care for them due to nursing home admission, serious illness, or death.
Many Hospice Hearts cats and dogs would be deemed unadoptable in a traditional shelter environment and euthanized due to advanced age or health issues. We are proud to provide an alternative for these beloved pets when their owners are no longer able to care for them.
A 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization licensed by the Illinois Department of Agriculture, Hospice Hearts serves all cats and dogs in the foster care environment until time of adoption. As space permits, we accept pets directly from owners in need as well as transfers from shelters and animal controls around the state meeting our criteria.

Amazing rescue that takes in animals that most others would not -- often elderly pets with health issues, complicated by grief over the loss of their owners. Director and volunteers are amazing and dedicated, working tirelessly to find the right match for these beloved pets, providing peace of mind to their ill or dying owners, or families left behind. Hospice Hearts -- the name says it all!!!!

Any animal not already spayed/neutered upon arrival will be taken care of prior to fostering or adoption. Also work with other groups to help make sure animals in central Illinois are being sterilized to help break the overpopulation epidemic!

HH works with animals that most other shelters and groups would not, and sees to it that they receive comprehensive medical care. They use the foster environment to help grieving pets overcome behavioral issues to become attractive adoptees. They do amazing work at finding homes for animals with many strikes against them.
