Do you need to find a loving home for your pet?
Shelters are often inundated with pet surrenders, and do not want to provide a simple outlet that takes away the obligation of responsible pet ownership. Therefore, they would prefer that people try hard to find a solution before resorting to surrendering their pet to a shelter. If you must find a new home for a pet, please try posting to our adoption portal before placing the burden on the shelter. Direct adoptions work well and allow everyone to share in the accountability of their community!

To build our hands-on rescue, nurture, and adoption efforts to save the lives of as many companion animals as possible — one at a time — and promote education to increase shelter adoptions, reduce animal cruelty, and advance the highest standards in animal welfare.
Paws Illinois, NFP is a non-profit, no-kill, all volunteer dog rescue organization serving the Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin. We are dedicated to rescuing animals left homeless for whatever reason – animals in public shelters where they are at high risk of euthanasia due to pet overpopulation, dogs given up by their owners because of difficult circumstances, and those in danger of abuse or neglect.
We place animals in loving, responsible, committed permanent homes, following a comprehensive adoption process which includes taking considerable care in finding good matches and educating prospective adopters about the responsibilities and costs of bringing a animals into their homes and lives.
Animals in our care are spayed or neutered, receive all appropriate veterinary care and treatment, and placed in nurturing foster homes while they await placement in their permanent homes. We assist animals in distress without regard to age, breed or ease of placement. To the extent our finances allow animals in the greatest need take priority.
