Woof! Meow! One thing before you go…
Do you need to find a loving home for your pet?
Shelters are often inundated with pet surrenders, and do not want to provide a simple outlet that takes away the obligation of responsible pet ownership. Therefore, they would prefer that people try hard to find a solution before resorting to surrendering their pet to a shelter. If you must find a new home for a pet, please try posting to our adoption portal before placing the burden on the shelter. Direct adoptions work well and allow everyone to share in the accountability of their community!

Do you need to find a loving home for your pet?
No-kill shelters do wonderful work, but as a result, are often inundated with pet surrenders. In the unfortunate scenario that you have to find a new home for your pet, please read through the rehoming solution and articles on this page before contacting the shelter.

I would assume the director is the one who makes the decisions to not reclaim puppies they adopted out that were dumped in County Shelters. Sheba died at 8 months old because Suncoast Animal League refused to go get her when her adopters dumped her in the shelter in Hillsborough County. While our shelters in central Florida have high rates of euthanizing dogs, Suncoast Animal League imports more cute puppies from out of state and contributes to the overpopulation in this area. And then won't take them back when the former pups, now dogs need him! Puppies bring in good money!

They don't kill their dogs. They leave them in the shelter and refuse to take back dogs that were adopted from them. The shelters kills them, Suncoast Animal League doesn't

Sheba was adopted from Suncoast Animal League as a baby, she wasn't trained, and was dumped in Hillsborough County Shelter at 8 months old. She was scared and climbing up the back of her kennel when Animal control workers tried to interact with her. Suncoast refused to take her back. She was euthanized August 11, 2017 at the age of 8 months old for "behavior". She was scared, not mean.

I was surprised to see one of the puppies they adopted out end up in the shelter in Hillsborough County and they refused to take it back. Sheba was 8 months old when they no longer wanted her.

They import puppies from out of state, which contributes in a bad way to our overpopulation problem in our own area shelters. I would love to see them reduce the population in our shelters and take those dogs.

When they take puppies, they should take their moms too and spay them. But they don't, just the quick sale puppies
