Woof! Meow! One thing before you go…
Do you need to find a loving home for your pet?
Shelters are often inundated with pet surrenders, and do not want to provide a simple outlet that takes away the obligation of responsible pet ownership. Therefore, they would prefer that people try hard to find a solution before resorting to surrendering their pet to a shelter. If you must find a new home for a pet, please try posting to our adoption portal before placing the burden on the shelter. Direct adoptions work well and allow everyone to share in the accountability of their community!

Adoptable Pets in New York
(report broken link)
DVHS is a 503c nonprofit organization that has been in operation since 1964. Our shelter provides emergency housing for pets that have become separated from their families for a number of reasons:
– Some pets are brought to the shelter because their families are no longer able to provide for them due to financial difficulties or experience other life changing events
– Some pets are lost or abandoned
– Some pets are brought to us because their owner passed away
Whatever the reason, we provide them with emergency services such as temporary housing, food and medical treatment. We can provide housing for a maximum of 35 dogs and 70 cats at any given time. We also try our best to find new permanent homes for our residents. Each year we adopt out approximately 200 cats and dogs.
