Woof! Meow! One thing before you go…
Do you need to find a loving home for your pet?
Shelters are often inundated with pet surrenders, and do not want to provide a simple outlet that takes away the obligation of responsible pet ownership. Therefore, they would prefer that people try hard to find a solution before resorting to surrendering their pet to a shelter. If you must find a new home for a pet, please try posting to our adoption portal before placing the burden on the shelter. Direct adoptions work well and allow everyone to share in the accountability of their community!

Adoptable Pets in Alabama
(report broken link)
Since 1977, we ve been helping strays and unwanted pets find loving homes. Through the years, weve placed many animals with loving families. Along with our volunteers and caring, adoptive families, we re giving animals a chance to live.
OUR HISTORY
The Alabama Animal Adoption Society is a nonprofit, tax exempt organization which was founded in 1977 by a small group of people whose primary goal was to solve the problem of strays and unwanted pets in need of finding loving homes. The AAAS started as a mobile pet adoption that would operate two Saturdays a month.
In November of 1982 the AAAS purchased a building which is now known as the Center. Since then, the AAAS has been holding adoptions at this facility every Saturday, with the exceptions of some holidays, for the purpose of adopting out animals to responsible and loving homes.
It is our goal that we can find permanent homes for the strays and unwanted pets and end pet over population through our many services, including our vigorous spay and neuter program.
All of our animals are in foster homes or with their current owners. We do NOT euthanize. We are always looking for more foster homes and volunteers.
