Woof! Meow! One thing before you go…
Do you need to find a loving home for your pet?
Shelters are often inundated with pet surrenders, and do not want to provide a simple outlet that takes away the obligation of responsible pet ownership. Therefore, they would prefer that people try hard to find a solution before resorting to surrendering their pet to a shelter. If you must find a new home for a pet, please try posting to our adoption portal before placing the burden on the shelter. Direct adoptions work well and allow everyone to share in the accountability of their community!

Adoptable Pets in Maryland
(report broken link)
Our innovative model, with the support of generous donors, enables us to rescue and adopt animals that would otherwise be euthanized.
At HART, we developed a creative way to fund our mission with an innovative model to ensure a long-term legacy for our animals.
Small charitable organizations are finding it difficult to raise money for day-to-day operations to achieve their mission. Americans are giving less and, at the same time, they have more options on where to give their charitable donations. Recognizing that long-term sustainability would require a way to supplement the donations given each year by people like you, Harts founders developed an innovative model to help fund the important work being done in Western Maryland to rescue, care for, and find adopting homes for pets.
When the HART for Animals Center opened in 2014, it was the culmination of over 10 years of effort by many people. Included in the center are a full-service veterinary practice — the Bredel Vet Clinic, a full-service dog and cat boarding facility — the Bed N Bark Inn, and a dog groomer and day spa — MuttWorks. HART for Animals also runs the Pick of the Litter thrift store which sells items donated by generous donors. The profit from these services is used to help fund the day-to-day operations of HART for Animals along with the generous donations from our donors, both large and small.
This model helps us to ensure a long-term legacy for the animals in need of rescue and seeking their forever homes through our adoption center. Our ability to thrive in the years ahead still depends heavily on your generosity.
OUR MISSION
To improve the condition of animals in Western Maryland and surrounding regions through: rescue and transport; accessible spay/neuter surgeries; building and operating a humane animal center; sheltering and adopting homeless animals.
