Woof! Meow! One thing before you go…
Do you need to find a loving home for your pet?
Shelters are often inundated with pet surrenders, and do not want to provide a simple outlet that takes away the obligation of responsible pet ownership. Therefore, they would prefer that people try hard to find a solution before resorting to surrendering their pet to a shelter. If you must find a new home for a pet, please try posting to our adoption portal before placing the burden on the shelter. Direct adoptions work well and allow everyone to share in the accountability of their community!

The Fredericksburg Regional SPCA is a non-profit, lifesaving humane organization dedicated to the principle that every life is unique and worthy of protection. As a local leader in humane care and education, the Fredericksburg SPCA's mission is to tackle the problem of pet overpopulation through education, adoption, rehabilitation, and spay/neuter. The organization saves the lives of many homeless animals each year and cares for approximately 250 cats and dogs daily.
It truly takes a village to save lives. That's why the Fredericksburg SPCA is committed to expanding community-based programs that support pet owners with the resources they need to keep their pets in loving homes and out of the shelter system. This approach allows us to open our doors to animals from municipal shelters — many of which are severely underfunded and overwhelmed.
Supporting these government-run shelters is essential to a no-kill Virginia; they cannot do it alone. By working together, we can reduce euthanasia rates and create a stronger, more compassionate safety net for animals across the state.
