Woof! Meow! One thing before you go…
Do you need to find a loving home for your pet?
Shelters are often inundated with pet surrenders, and do not want to provide a simple outlet that takes away the obligation of responsible pet ownership. Therefore, they would prefer that people try hard to find a solution before resorting to surrendering their pet to a shelter. If you must find a new home for a pet, please try posting to our adoption portal before placing the burden on the shelter. Direct adoptions work well and allow everyone to share in the accountability of their community!

The Scott County Humane Society was formed by a small group of animal lovers dedicated to improving the lives of the animals of Scott County, Virginia. We have been a 501(c)(3) organization since November 2007. We are a 100% volunteer organization and rely solely on monetary donations. All donations are tax deductible.
By concentrating on a low cost spay/neuter program for cats and dogs, aggressively pulling dogs from the local animal shelter for reputable rescues, and adopting dogs into loving homes, we have helped our local animal shelter reduce the euthanasia rate from 69% in 2013 to 3.85% in 2020.
Our vision is to reduce unwanted births, to rescue, foster, and promote adoption of homeless animals. To eradicate abuse of animals, to educate, and inspire the public to join our efforts to establish a successful, multi-faceted humane society to serve our county and surrounding area.
