Animals In Distress
Woof! Meow! One thing before you go…
Do you need to find a loving home for your pet?
Shelters are often inundated with pet surrenders, and do not want to provide a simple outlet that takes away the obligation of responsible pet ownership. Therefore, they would prefer that people try hard to find a solution before resorting to surrendering their pet to a shelter. If you must find a new home for a pet, please try posting to our adoption portal before placing the burden on the shelter. Direct adoptions work well and allow everyone to share in the accountability of their community!

Animals in Distress, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that has serviced the Mercer County area for over 50 years. As one of the oldest rescues in our area, our primary focus has been rescue of abandoned, abused, or neglected cats and kittens.
Our rescue maintains a small adoption room in Mercerville, NJ, often referred to as the cat cottage, where cats can receive visitors inquiring about adoption in a relaxed environment. The cats and kittens in the cottage are offered out of cage time daily to exercise, play, bird-watch through the window, or lounge in the sun.
We have no paid employees, and are 100% volunteer run. This ensures that all donations received go directly to the care and well-being of animals we rescue.
