Woof! Meow! One thing before you go…
Do you need to find a loving home for your pet?
Shelters are often inundated with pet surrenders, and do not want to provide a simple outlet that takes away the obligation of responsible pet ownership. Therefore, they would prefer that people try hard to find a solution before resorting to surrendering their pet to a shelter. If you must find a new home for a pet, please try posting to our adoption portal before placing the burden on the shelter. Direct adoptions work well and allow everyone to share in the accountability of their community!

Detroit Animal Welfare Group (DAWG) is a 501C3 non profit “no-kill” rescue in Macomb County, Michigan.
We are foster based and composed of over 100 volunteers. Our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and re-home animals in need. Our pets come from local shelters, owner surrenders and strays. We focus on Saving the Stray’s of Detroit through our Detroit Outreach Program and hold regular outreach missions to take in injured, starved, neglected and abused animals. Every animal is provided a loving home, full veterinary care including; spay/neuter, age appropriate vaccines, fecal, heartworm test, feline leukemia/FIV test, de-worming, and microchip placement in addition to any other medical needs. We accept all breeds and species including farm animals and wildlife.
Community education is paramount with the focus on volunteers teaching proper animal care and awareness to dog fighting in Detroit. Low income residents are provided with housing, food, straw and transport to spay/neuter appointments.
