Shelters are often inundated with pet surrenders, and do not want to provide a simple outlet that takes away the obligation of responsible pet ownership. Therefore, they would prefer that people try hard to find a solution before resorting to surrendering their pet to a shelter. If you must find a new home for a pet, please try posting to our adoption portal before placing the burden on the shelter. Direct adoptions work well and allow everyone to share in the accountability of their community!
No-kill shelters do wonderful work, but as a result, are often inundated with pet surrenders. In the unfortunate scenario that you have to find a new home for your pet, please read through the rehoming solution and articles on this page before contacting the shelter.

We're excited to announce that we are now located in downtown Fort Scott at 8 N Judson St and doing business as FORT SCOTT PAWS & CLAWS.
We remain a private non-profit NO-KILL shelter. We house cats in our facility; dogs are housed in foster homes.
Our new web address is FSPawsAndClaws.org. Our mailing address is PO Box 667, Fort Scott KS 66701. Our phone remains 620-223-2888. We're open Mon thru Sat, 10am to 4pm.
This is not a legitimate shelter. When they get more animals than they can care for they take them out and dump them on surrounding farms, creating packs of feral animals.
I don't know who you are, but that's not true. And you can't have a little understanding on this!!!!!! I understand, but these animals are GOD'S creatures just like us!
