Woof! Meow! One thing before you go…
Do you need to find a loving home for your pet?
Shelters are often inundated with pet surrenders, and do not want to provide a simple outlet that takes away the obligation of responsible pet ownership. Therefore, they would prefer that people try hard to find a solution before resorting to surrendering their pet to a shelter. If you must find a new home for a pet, please try posting to our adoption portal before placing the burden on the shelter. Direct adoptions work well and allow everyone to share in the accountability of their community!

Adoptable Pets in Kansas

Leavenworth County Humane Society, Inc. (LCHS) was originally founded in 2006 with a mission of “preventing cruelty to animals through education, uniting animals in our care with responsible owners, returning lost animals to their owners, educating the general public about the humane treatment of animals and reducing companion animal population through sterilization.”
One major goal has always been to build and operate a centrally located, no-kill, full-service animal care center, involving people from throughout Leavenworth County, so that all the County’s animals have a safe and loving place to be until LCHS can return them to their owners or find them great homes.
