Woof! Meow! One thing before you go…
Do you need to find a loving home for your pet?
Shelters are often inundated with pet surrenders, and do not want to provide a simple outlet that takes away the obligation of responsible pet ownership. Therefore, they would prefer that people try hard to find a solution before resorting to surrendering their pet to a shelter. If you must find a new home for a pet, please try posting to our adoption portal before placing the burden on the shelter. Direct adoptions work well and allow everyone to share in the accountability of their community!

Our Mission:
Rivers and Bluffs Animal Shelter will be a passionate advocate that will provide quality care for companion animals in need as we seek their forever homes and educate the community about responsible pet ownership.
In 2007, a small group of people met in a Prairie du Chien, WI, park to discuss the need for an animal shelter in the area. In 2008. The number of volunteers increased and so did the fundraising.
We opened our doors in December 2017, We are very grateful to our friends who contributed money, time, and expertise. Rivers and Bluffs Animal Shelter serve the counties of Grant, Crawford, and Clayton counties of southwest Wisconsin and North East Iowa.
Rivers and Bluffs is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization. Your tax-deductible donation can be mailed to Rivers and Bluffs Animal Shelter, PO Box 421 Prairie du Chien, WI 53821.
State License 468354-DS
Rivers and Bluffs Animal Shelter:
Cares for domestic cats and dogs
Is a private, not-for-profit 501(c) (3) organization
Does not euthanize for space and does not put a time limit on adoptable pets
Receives no federal, state or county government funding
Relies heavily on the generosity of our supporters
Works with rescue groups for pet placement when needed
Can not accept every animal found or needing to be surrendered in order to prevent over-crowding and the accompanying secondary illnesses/stresses. We will suggest an alternative idea
