Shelters are often inundated with pet surrenders, and do not want to provide a simple outlet that takes away the obligation of responsible pet ownership. Therefore, they would prefer that people try hard to find a solution before resorting to surrendering their pet to a shelter. If you must find a new home for a pet, please try posting to our adoption portal before placing the burden on the shelter. Direct adoptions work well and allow everyone to share in the accountability of their community!
We are the only No Kill Shelter in Central Oregon. We are located at 1280 S. Tom McCall Rd. Prineville, Oregon 97754. We are a 100% non profit organization and don't recieve any funding from the state and very little from the city or the county for the strays we take in. We are mostly supported by the generous donations people give. Our goal is to find a good home for every animal that comes through our door no matter how long it takes.
Do you need to find a loving home for your pet?
No-kill shelters do wonderful work, but as a result, are often inundated with pet surrenders. In the unfortunate scenario that you have to find a new home for your pet, please read through the rehoming solution and articles on this page before contacting the shelter.
Who or what determines an animal shelter from being labeled as a kill or no kill shelter? What is your "live release rate" and your "non-live release rate?" And finally, what are the reasons or the percentages in determining the "non-live release rate?" e.g., Owner requested euthanized pets, Medical Issues etc?
Thank!
Jenn
