Woof! Meow! One thing before you go…
Do you need to find a loving home for your pet?
Shelters are often inundated with pet surrenders, and do not want to provide a simple outlet that takes away the obligation of responsible pet ownership. Therefore, they would prefer that people try hard to find a solution before resorting to surrendering their pet to a shelter. If you must find a new home for a pet, please try posting to our adoption portal before placing the burden on the shelter. Direct adoptions work well and allow everyone to share in the accountability of their community!

Our animal shelter was founded in August 2012. A community member and animal lover, James "Bo" Bryant left a legacy when he donated the funds to begin the construction of our shelter. Before 2012, animal control was operated with a few holding kennels behind the parish jail. Now, we are able to operate a full-time animal shelter thanks to Mr. Bryants generosity and love of animals. Our parish has moved from saving less than 10% of the parishs stray population, to now saving more than 95% of the stray population per year!
OUR MISSION
Our Mission at WFAHS is to provide a safe, healthy, and caring environment for the animals under our care as we search for their original owners or a caring adoptive home. Our mission is also to help reduce the pet population in our parish.
