Woof! Meow! One thing before you go…
Do you need to find a loving home for your pet?
Shelters are often inundated with pet surrenders, and do not want to provide a simple outlet that takes away the obligation of responsible pet ownership. Therefore, they would prefer that people try hard to find a solution before resorting to surrendering their pet to a shelter. If you must find a new home for a pet, please try posting to our adoption portal before placing the burden on the shelter. Direct adoptions work well and allow everyone to share in the accountability of their community!

Adoptable Pets in South Carolina

The Animal Mission is a South Carolina based 501(c)(3) charitable organization committed to providing free or low cost spay and neuter procedures for all pet owners in our area, in an effort to help achieve ‘No-Kill’ status for our local municipal shelters. Originally established as a ‘Friend of the Shelter’ organization in 1991, we refocused our mission in 2006 to target the shelter’s severe overcrowding situation (and euthanasia rate of over 80%) via an aggressively-funded spay/neuter initiative. And it’s working.
Thanks to overwhelming community support and the efforts of our volunteer board of directors and shelter staff, those numbers continue to improve each year. They now sit at live release rate of 80% (and intake numbers have also decreased for the last 9 consecutive years). The goal of ‘No-Kill’ status has never been closer for the Midlands.
Since 2006, through fundraising events and your donations, we’ve provided approximately $1.7 million in spay/neuter vouchers, resulting in over 39,000 procedures.
The organization’s policies, programs, and activities are guided by our Board of Directors. Members are community volunteers elected by sitting board members to serve staggered terms of office.
