Shelters are often inundated with pet surrenders, and do not want to provide a simple outlet that takes away the obligation of responsible pet ownership. Therefore, they would prefer that people try hard to find a solution before resorting to surrendering their pet to a shelter. If you must find a new home for a pet, please try posting to our adoption portal before placing the burden on the shelter. Direct adoptions work well and allow everyone to share in the accountability of their community!
No-kill shelters do wonderful work, but as a result, are often inundated with pet surrenders. In the unfortunate scenario that you have to find a new home for your pet, please read through the rehoming solution and articles on this page before contacting the shelter.

We were looking for a pup for a while and I found the SPCA of Ct. Susan was not only understanding and helpful but knowledgeable and really cares about these animals. I only wish I could have given them 6 stars. Vincent Mandile

Terrible Place to adopt or send a dog. Do your research! Many people not getting dogs but they continue to take your money. Cages stacked on top of each other. Dogs living outside and in trailers. How about the fact the owner Fred Acker got whacked with 17 Counts of Animal Cruelty years ago out of Milford now recently 62!!! in Bethlehem, CT. Contact the SPCA, you'll find that this rescue is not even a legit ASPCA but continue to uses the similarity of the name. It's all about money and this man has a hoarding problem. He does not care about these animals if he can allow them to freeze in barns with no water to drink. Allow them to be filthy and sick. Do your research please!
