Woof! Meow! One thing before you go…
Do you need to find a loving home for your pet?
Shelters are often inundated with pet surrenders, and do not want to provide a simple outlet that takes away the obligation of responsible pet ownership. Therefore, they would prefer that people try hard to find a solution before resorting to surrendering their pet to a shelter. If you must find a new home for a pet, please try posting to our adoption portal before placing the burden on the shelter. Direct adoptions work well and allow everyone to share in the accountability of their community!

The Halifax, Queensbury & Brighouse Cats Protection Branch was set up in 2007 by a group of volunteers who wanted to do more to reduce the ongoing suffering of cats in the Halifax, Queensbury & Brighouse area. One of our main concerns was the growing number of unneutered strays and abandoned cats living in our area. To help the situation we carry out half price or free neutering campaigns to encourage owners to neuter their cats and at the same time we try to neuter the strays that otherwise continue to breed and live short, unhappy lives in gardens and outbuildings. We welcome help with our neutering campaigns, leaflet dropping, poster distribution, trapping, ferrying cats and kittens to and from the vets and attending stalls advertising our service. This work is overseen by our Neutering Campaign Officer.
Our dedicated volunteer fosterers care for the cats and kittens until good homes can be found. The Branch supplies all food, litter, equipment etc and organises the rehoming. Fosterers are supported by the Welfare Officer who keeps in regular contact with them.
