Woof! Meow! One thing before you go…
Do you need to find a loving home for your pet?
Shelters are often inundated with pet surrenders, and do not want to provide a simple outlet that takes away the obligation of responsible pet ownership. Therefore, they would prefer that people try hard to find a solution before resorting to surrendering their pet to a shelter. If you must find a new home for a pet, please try posting to our adoption portal before placing the burden on the shelter. Direct adoptions work well and allow everyone to share in the accountability of their community!

Adoptable Pets in Kentucky
(report broken link)
Realizing that Hart County Kentucky lacked a shelter and had no coordinated way to care for lost, unwanted, abused or neglected animals, the people of this area came together in 2015 to form Animal Rescue Kare. Since then, with all of us working together, weve been able to operate successful voucher, Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) and Foster/adoption programs.
We were glad to see the recent opening of the Hart County Animal Shelter and we are doing all we can to support its operations. The shelter deals with dogs only so ARK will focus its foster activities on cats. ARK volunteers continue our fundraising, our education and awareness campaigns, and our SNR program with its low-cost spay/neuter voucher sales. Our TNR program is also working to humanely trap, neuter and return cats to their outdoor colonies. We urge you to report the location of cat colonies for TNR. We use this information to assist our new coordinator for the TNR program.
