Woof! Meow! One thing before you go…
Do you need to find a loving home for your pet?
Shelters are often inundated with pet surrenders, and do not want to provide a simple outlet that takes away the obligation of responsible pet ownership. Therefore, they would prefer that people try hard to find a solution before resorting to surrendering their pet to a shelter. If you must find a new home for a pet, please try posting to our adoption portal before placing the burden on the shelter. Direct adoptions work well and allow everyone to share in the accountability of their community!

Judy Dole and Michael Heffron operate a volunteer animal rescue group known as Great Pyrenees Rescue. It was founded by John and Linda Kryder, who became involved in saving Pyrenees after they adopted the first dog they ever owned in March of 1994. She was a Great Pyrenees puppy named Nichole. At the time they adopted her, John was 65 years young, proving any age is right to get your first dog.
No one could possibly imagine the trials and tribulations they experienced in learning to live with such an independent and intelligent Great Pyrenees puppy. In desperation, they joined the Great Pyrenees Club of America, participated in the activities of a regional club, and, eventually, became involved in the clubs rescue program. One thing led to another, and in 1996 John & Linda separated from the club and formed PYRescue. Since then they have independently and actively worked to place unwanted or abused Great Pyrenees dogs in loving, caring new homes. On the average, they rescue one or two Great Pyrenees per week, and have placed over 800 dogs to date!
