Adoptable Pets in Colorado

Do you need to find a loving home for your pet?

No-kill shelters do wonderful work, but as a result, are often inundated with pet surrenders. In the unfortunate scenario that you have to find a new home for your pet, please read through the rehoming solution and articles on this page before contacting the shelter.

I would love an opportunity to see what in the world the director of this shelter is fostering through their statements to prospective adopters! As someone with a great deal of rescue experience, I was shocked in speaking with them. I plan on reporting them to every online group I can and getting the word out....they should use a questionnaire and try some tact when speaking with the public. A little tact and not hanging up on someone would go a long way!

This group needs some education about dogs and their care and how to interact with compassionate people who are willing to apply for adoption of an animal. They are taking a great deal of personal information from us. They need to practice respect.

According to the representative, the only way to stop animals from being surrendered is to place them in a home and have a backup person who will take the animal. Your statement above contradicts this. Who would ever turn to these people for advice or compassion? Evergreen hopefully has other shelters that celebrate the companionship of a dog and its human!

The person who reviewed my application was only interested in getting information from me about a backup plan if something were to happen to me! Something can happen to a 21 year old! This is age discrimination of the worst sort. I can't believe a 501C can do this.

I applied to adopt a dog and I have wonderful credentials. All my dogs have had the best of care, training and a loving home. I had a deaf pitbull that I had trained and together we ensure she grew up happy and confident. Dogs that required specialists for neurology, cardiology, oncology got it. My dogs have lived 13-17 years. I was declined a chance to meet a dog because I didn't already have a dog. I had recently put a 17 year old dog to sleep and I wanted to start with one dog. Circle2 and the foster indicated I could not adopt and offered to allow me to adopt if they let me home two dogs. This shows very poor judgement, bringing two new dogs into a new environment. Lynn the foster seemed to have the all the say and call the shots. He would not respond to the agencies requests to contact me or set up an interview. I have always had dogs. The dog would have access to day care at mom's house, run off a fenced yard and access to the best veterinary care. The dog is a pitbull. I have experience with pit bulls. It was ridiculous how our interaction was handled. When I questioned their logic, they became very defensive. Steer clear. They think they have the dog's best interests in mind, but they do not. BTW, the admin indicated at one point in our conversations they had issues with this foster parent.

This was my first experience into trying to adopt a dog, and I wanted to go with a shelter. I guess I should have done my research on this place because it was awful. Wanda never even contacted me directly, I had to play telephone with the foster lady she was using for the dog we wanted. Went through all their hoops (including an "inspection" of the size of my home) to prove we were a good fit, only to have them tell me that they were "too worried that the dog would tear up the house because it's a working dog and working dogs like to work". Nevermind the fact that we already were prepared for that and had planned to meet the dogs exercise needs. It was just completely unfair and felt like they were gatekeeping owning a dog in an apartment. Not everyone can afford a house and a yard these days, which is why there are dog parks literally everywhere. Truly felt like we were looked down upon because of our living situation. And the best part? The foster who had the dog we wanted to adopt, also had six other dogs in her house, along with puppies and cats. Doesn't that seem a little suspicious to anyone? I don't recommend these guys at all. I'm looking into DDFL and maybe even PetSmart s adoption program. Don't do business with Circle 2!

I was contacted about an available dog by the director. After a phone conversation and agreeing on a meet and greet time (the next day), I reflected on the conversation and decided that the dog was probably not the best fit for me/my family. I wanted to make sure the puppy was being adopted by exactly the right person and did not think that was me. I emailed the director right away, over 12 hours before the agreed meet and gree time, and she responded with an incredibly rude, personal attack. I get that I probably put her in a frustrating position, but I was attempting to save her time and make sure the dog was going to the right home. It may have just been a severe miscommunication for both of us, but there is truly no reason to be unprofessional or mean to anyone you don't know, especially as I conveyed my apologies. It was a terrible interaction I don't wish on anyone!

As much as I applaud Circle 2 for their efforts, I had a negative experience with Wanda. We brought a dog home for a 24-hour trial and, as sweet as he was, he just wasn't a fit for our family. Wanda lost it. She was extremely agitated to the point of physically shaking and verbally attacking me in the El Rancho parking lot when I returned the dog. It was very awkward, and I felt bad about the whole thing. I've never experienced an adult talking to me the way she did, though I understand the pressure these rescue folks must feel trying to move dogs in and out. The dog was a cutie and found another forever family within a couple of weeks. Maybe she was having a bad day and surely people have had better interactions. I hope she keeps up the rescue's mission of matching dogs in need with families! Even after this awful encounter, I donated to this rescue to support their work. I wholeheartedly recommend Life is Better Rescue, a compassionate group of folks who are great communicators and friendly to interact with. We've only ever adopted dogs, and this experience was unique to say the least.

Communication would be awesome. I submitted an application 10 days ago and haven’t hear anything yet. Ive reached out multiple times too. Don’t you want animals to get adopted?? You’d think you’d want them to have a home. But apparently after reading comments, they are more about profit. Sad.

I had a wonderful experience with Circle 2. I had been looking to adopt a dog for a few months and interacted with a few shelters in the Denver area but had been having no luck. I found a dog I was interested in on Circle 2's website and filled out the application (which was very long, but I think it shows that they care and really want to find a good home). I received a phone call the next day and Wanda was great at communicating the entire time via phone or text. The dog, Baker, was being rescued from Texas and Wanda gave me updates the whole way about his travel plans and when I would be able to meet/adopt him. I highly recommend Circle 2!

I strongly disagree with all comments and reviews here. We submitted an application to adopt our puppy, and they were extremely responsive. They called me the next day to go over details, we met the puppy the following day, and we were able to take her home. Since we adopted her, I've been in touch with the team - sharing pictures and updates - they are always very happy and responsive. I would 100% recommend Circle2Rescue!

I agree! I had a similar experience and highly recommend Circle 2. They were so much better at communicating than any other shelter I reached out to.

Wanda Lily has zero concern for pet welfare and uses emotions to force adoptions so the rescue doesn't have to pay for vet care. She took me to court to collect her $500 fee and admitted she only is in it for the money. Stay away from this rescue and I will continue to leave reviews everywhere I can to warn people that this rescue is not living it's mission. Do NOT DONATE

These comments are based on my interaction with the Circle 2 Rescue organization, primarily with Wanda Lilly. She proved to be deceitful, rude, unprofessional, and lacks sense of ownership. She cannot be bothered with basic, thorough communication, nor juggle this alleged volunteer program aside her other assumed priorities. Take heed in this and the multitude of dissatisfied reviews - there are plenty of worthy and competent shelters/rescues out there.

1. Feral Cat TNR Program

Many communities are embracing Trap, Neuter, Release programs (TNR) to improve animal welfare, reduce death rates, and meet obligations to public welfare.

2. High-Volume, Low-Cost Spay/Neuter

Low cost, high volume spay/neuter will quickly lead to fewer animals entering the shelter system, allowing more resources to be allocated toward saving lives.

3. Rescue Groups

An adoption or transfer to a rescue group frees up scarce cage and kennel space, reduces expenses for feeding, cleaning, killing, and improves a community's rate of lifesaving. In an environment of millions of dogs and cats killed in shelters annually, rare is the circumstance in which a rescue group should be denied an animal.

4. Foster Care

Volunteer foster care is crucial to No Kill. Without it, saving lives is compromised. It is a low cost, and often no cost, way of increasing a shelter's capacity, improving public relations, increasing a shelter's public image, rehabilitating sick and injured or behaviorally challenged animals, and saving lives.

5. Comprehensive Adoption Programs

Adoptions are vital to an agency's lifesaving mission. The quantity and quality of shelter adoptions is in shelter management's hands, making lifesaving a direct function of shelter policies and practice. In fact, studies show people get their animals from shelters only 20% of the time. If shelters better promoted their animals and had adoption programs responsive to the needs of the community, including public access hours for working people, offsite adoptions, adoption incentives, and effective marketing, they could increase the number of homes available and replace killing with adoptions. Contrary to conventional wisdom, shelters can adopt their way out of killing.

6. Pet Retention

While some of the reasons animals are surrendered to shelters are unavoidable, others can be prevented-but only if shelters are willing to work with people to help them solve their problems. Saving animals requires communities to develop innovative strategies for keeping people and their companion animals together. And the more a community sees its shelters as a place to turn for advice and assistance, the easier this job will be.

7. Medical and Behavior Programs

In order to meet its commitment to a lifesaving guarantee for all savable animals, shelters need to keep animals happy and healthy and keep animals moving through the system. To do this, shelters must put in place comprehensive vaccination, handling, cleaning, socialization, and care policies before animals get sick and rehabilitative efforts for those who come in sick, injured, unweaned, or traumatized.

8. Public Relations/Community Involvement

Increasing adoptions, maximizing donations, recruiting volunteers and partnering with community agencies comes down to one thing: increasing the shelter's exposure. And that means consistent marketing and public relations. Public relations and marketing are the foundation of all a shelter's activities and their success. To do all these things well, the shelter must be in the public eye.

9. Volunteers

Volunteers are a dedicated "army of compassion" and the backbone of a successful No Kill effort. There is never enough staff, never enough dollars to hire more staff, and always more needs than paid human resources. That is where volunteers come in and make the difference between success and failure and, for the animals, life and death.

10. Proactive Redemptions

One of the most overlooked areas for reducing killing in animal control shelters are lost animal reclaims. Sadly, besides having pet owners fill out a lost pet report, very little effort is made in this area of shelter operations. This is unfortunate because doing so-primarily shifting from passive to a more proactive approach-has proven to have a significant impact on lifesaving and allow shelters to return a large percentage of lost animals to their families.

11. A Compassionate Director

The final element of the No Kill equation is the most important of all, without which all other elements are thwarted-a hard working, compassionate animal control or shelter director not content to regurgitate tired cliches or hide behind the myth of "too many animals, not enough homes." Unfortunately, this one is also oftentimes the hardest one to demand and find.
