Shelters are often inundated with pet surrenders, and do not want to provide a simple outlet that takes away the obligation of responsible pet ownership. Therefore, they would prefer that people try hard to find a solution before resorting to surrendering their pet to a shelter. If you must find a new home for a pet, please try posting to our adoption portal before placing the burden on the shelter. Direct adoptions work well and allow everyone to share in the accountability of their community!
No-kill shelters do wonderful work, but as a result, are often inundated with pet surrenders. In the unfortunate scenario that you have to find a new home for your pet, please read through the rehoming solution and articles on this page before contacting the shelter.

Far, far too much euthanasia of animals with diabetes, hyperthyroidism, litter box issues, and simply not adapting to shelter life. Emergency vet services are available but severely underutilized. The bottom line financially is much more important to them than saving a life - which is sad for a shelter funded so generously by the public.

Unfortunately, their adoption process doesn't properly screen applicants. Otherwise, they are absolute marketing geniuses, are open extended hours, etc.

They will do TNR and place ferals in barn homes when it's easy to do so. If it requires effort, holding cats for extended periods of time, etc., they almost always euthanize.

We are looking for an older cat and this one sounds just right for us.
We are an older couple married for 57 years and have always lived in Manchester NH
We have had cats in the past. Now that we are an empty nest and pretty sure we are done traveling we ready to settle down.
