Woof! Meow! One thing before you go…
Do you need to find a loving home for your pet?
Shelters are often inundated with pet surrenders, and do not want to provide a simple outlet that takes away the obligation of responsible pet ownership. Therefore, they would prefer that people try hard to find a solution before resorting to surrendering their pet to a shelter. If you must find a new home for a pet, please try posting to our adoption portal before placing the burden on the shelter. Direct adoptions work well and allow everyone to share in the accountability of their community!

Adoptable Pets in Maine
(report broken link)
Founded in 2019, Mainely Mutts Animal Rescue is a non-profit, all-breed, all-volunteer rescue organization based in southern Maine. We are dedicated to rescuing dogs from southern states, as they struggle with overpopulation, abuse, neglect, and difficult legislative practices.
The goal of MMAR is to place our dogs in loving, responsible, forever homes, after a comprehensive adoption process. We strive to find the perfect home match for our rescues, while providing education, resources, and support to every family. Our volunteers are committed to every dog beyond the adoption process.
As a team, MMAR values transparency, honesty, and communication, all while keeping each dogs best interests at the center of what we do. Mainely Mutts Animal Rescue started as an idea between three animal lovers, owners, and volunteers – all with full-time jobs, families, and pets – after hearing too many horrific stories and seeing too many heartbreaking social media pleas from rescuers down south. In practicality, we are just a handful of dedicated volunteers who rescue animals as time and resources allow.
Mainely Mutts primarily works with southern rescue partners, pulling high-risk puppies and dogs from Mississippi and Alabama. We work to place healthy pups in homes in which they will thrive. As a shelter-less rescue, we rely on an incredibly hardworking and compassionate foster network. Though we focus on saving dogs, were a team of animal lovers at heart and would never say no to helping any animal if able.
