Woof! Meow! One thing before you go…
Do you need to find a loving home for your pet?
Shelters are often inundated with pet surrenders, and do not want to provide a simple outlet that takes away the obligation of responsible pet ownership. Therefore, they would prefer that people try hard to find a solution before resorting to surrendering their pet to a shelter. If you must find a new home for a pet, please try posting to our adoption portal before placing the burden on the shelter. Direct adoptions work well and allow everyone to share in the accountability of their community!

GDHS was established in 1989 and incorporated as a non-profit registered charity. It operates in the Town of Gananoque and the former Front of Leeds Township (this is the area south of Gananoque Lake bordered by Deer Ridge Drive and Blue Mountain Road), and is a full service no kill affiliate of the OSPCA.
While only cats are in residence at the shelter due to space limitations, dog rescue and rehabilitation is provided throughout TLTI and Gananoque, as well as rescue, rehabilitation and adoption services for all small domestic animals.
Housing for homeless dogs is provided through a network of foster homes, commercial kennels and the resources of adjacent Humane Societies.
The Shelter facilitates investigations of cruelty and neglect and the handling of sick or injured wild life and farm animals using professional OSPCA staff and registered wildlife rescue services. All pets adopted out are spayed or neutered and have up to date shots, microchip and parasite control before they are released from the Shelter.
Run entirely by volunteers, no species is denied care by this shelter. For more information, please contact them.
We are a responsible NO KILL Humane Society, affiliated with the Ontario SPCA since 1992, and registered as a Canadian Charitable Organization.
