Woof! Meow! One thing before you go…
Do you need to find a loving home for your pet?
Shelters are often inundated with pet surrenders, and do not want to provide a simple outlet that takes away the obligation of responsible pet ownership. Therefore, they would prefer that people try hard to find a solution before resorting to surrendering their pet to a shelter. If you must find a new home for a pet, please try posting to our adoption portal before placing the burden on the shelter. Direct adoptions work well and allow everyone to share in the accountability of their community!

Adoptable Pets in New Mexico

Our Mission:
Rescue homeless dogs and cats and provide temporary quality care for them in foster homes until permanent adoptive homes can be found
Promote animal welfare through educational efforts and other services
Reduce overpopulation in companion animals and feral cats through spay-neuter services
Provide needed medical care to senior dogs and cats with the goal to either make them more adoptable or to provide end of life hospice care at an NMAF foster home or through a sponsorship at a senior care sanctuary.
No-kill policy:
NMAF does not euthanize healthy animal except in cases of severe and untreatable medical or behavioral problems. Once a dog or cat is in our system, we do as much as possible to ensure that it finds a loving home and that its medical and behavioral needs are met.
