Woof! Meow! One thing before you go…
Do you need to find a loving home for your pet?
Shelters are often inundated with pet surrenders, and do not want to provide a simple outlet that takes away the obligation of responsible pet ownership. Therefore, they would prefer that people try hard to find a solution before resorting to surrendering their pet to a shelter. If you must find a new home for a pet, please try posting to our adoption portal before placing the burden on the shelter. Direct adoptions work well and allow everyone to share in the accountability of their community!

HDCRA is a New Mexico non-profit organization whose mission is to provide shelter, medical care (including spay/neuter procedures and testing for FIV and feline leukemia), and safe and loving homes for sick, abandoned and otherwise neglected cats and kittens. High Desert foster parents provide temporary homes, food, and love, medicine, and prepare our cats for adoption.
HDCRA is a no-kill rescue; we do not euthanize animals except in cases of severe and untreatable medical problems. Once a cat is in our system, we do everything possible to ensure that it finds a loving forever home and that its medical and behavioral needs are met.
