Do you need to find a loving home for your pet?
Shelters are often inundated with pet surrenders, and do not want to provide a simple outlet that takes away the obligation of responsible pet ownership. Therefore, they would prefer that people try hard to find a solution before resorting to surrendering their pet to a shelter. If you must find a new home for a pet, please try posting to our adoption portal before placing the burden on the shelter. Direct adoptions work well and allow everyone to share in the accountability of their community!

Southern Pines Animal Shelter promotes animal welfare and responsible pet ownership in a variety of ways, including:
Finding homes for unwanted pets
Providing humane care for all animals in our custody
Educating the community about the problems of unwanted, neglected, and abused animals
Operating a low-cost, high-quality spay & neuter clinic for the general public (opened in July 2009)
Sheltering lost pets and reuniting them with their owners
Southern Pines Animal Shelter is an open admission shelter, meaning dogs and cats are accepted without regard to health, age, or perceived adoptability. Southern Pines works with the cities of Hattiesburg as well as Forrest County to house their stray animals, while also accepting unwanted and lost pets from all surrounding counties. In 2017, there were more than 7,000 abandoned, lost, and unwanted pets brought to the shelter from a the state of Mississippi. Please consider adopting your next pet through Southern Pines Animal Shelter.
