Woof! Meow! One thing before you go…
Do you need to find a loving home for your pet?
Shelters are often inundated with pet surrenders, and do not want to provide a simple outlet that takes away the obligation of responsible pet ownership. Therefore, they would prefer that people try hard to find a solution before resorting to surrendering their pet to a shelter. If you must find a new home for a pet, please try posting to our adoption portal before placing the burden on the shelter. Direct adoptions work well and allow everyone to share in the accountability of their community!

September of 2007, The Humane Society for Boone County was organized by citizens of Boone County to continue the task of animal rescue for homeless domestic animals. Our primary mission is the rescue and adoption of homeless and endangered domestic animals. We are advocates for public education of humane animal care and the public awareness of current animal regulations.
The Humane Society for Boone County, during our ninth year of operation (2016), was excited to announce that we had reached our goal of establishing a physical animal shelter to serve Boone County and we now continue to build on that success moving into our 10th year and beyond.
