Argyll Animal Aid (By Oban)

Argyll Animal Aid was formed around 20 years ago when a small group of us, all animal lovers, decided to do something about the lack of a local animal rescue shelter. From very small beginnings of looking after animals in our own homes, and just rescuing and rehoming in areas around us, the charity now rescues and rehomes along the west coast of Scotland, inland , and the islands. Anywhere, in fact, where there is a need — providing we have the resources at the time.

Many years ago one of our local vets told me that before we came on to the scene most unwanted animals taken into the surgery were destroyed — cats dogs, kittens, puppies. Everything. The fate of those which didn’t get as far as the surgery doesn’t bear thinking about. Animals which were found on the street were kept for their ‘legal’ time, after which, if nobody turned up for them or a new owner couldn’t be found, they were also destroyed.
