Woof! Meow! One thing before you go…
Do you need to find a loving home for your pet?
Shelters are often inundated with pet surrenders, and do not want to provide a simple outlet that takes away the obligation of responsible pet ownership. Therefore, they would prefer that people try hard to find a solution before resorting to surrendering their pet to a shelter. If you must find a new home for a pet, please try posting to our adoption portal before placing the burden on the shelter. Direct adoptions work well and allow everyone to share in the accountability of their community!

The NWT SPCA is a non-profit, charitable, volunteer-ran organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for all pets in the NORTH. We do this through public education and awareness, relationship building in communities and partnering organizations outside of the NWT, lobbying government for stronger animal protection legislation, offering various programs and services to the residents in the NWT such as animal rescue and protection initiatives, adoptions and fostering of abandoned, abused and neglected animals. We also offer a spay/neuter loan program to help people with that important but costly surgery.
We currently have a foster program where we have volunteers taking in rescue dogs and cats into their homes until we can get them transferred down south to Alberta, BC or adopt them here in the NWT. We get most of our dogs from the smaller communities of the Territories. We take what we have room for and save as many as possible. Our new Shelter is open, and we will still continue our foster program as this helps socialize animals for adoption.
