Shelters are often inundated with pet surrenders, and do not want to provide a simple outlet that takes away the obligation of responsible pet ownership. Therefore, they would prefer that people try hard to find a solution before resorting to surrendering their pet to a shelter. If you must find a new home for a pet, please try posting to our adoption portal before placing the burden on the shelter. Direct adoptions work well and allow everyone to share in the accountability of their community!
No-kill shelters do wonderful work, but as a result, are often inundated with pet surrenders. In the unfortunate scenario that you have to find a new home for your pet, please read through the rehoming solution and articles on this page before contacting the shelter.

YW Regularly posts notices of strays brought in. They do a good job of keeping their intake list updated, and will work with folks to get them to come in and see if their animal has been picked up.

I do not have a lot of information on the volunteer program there, but, I have seen calls for people to come in and interact with the animals, to stave off the stress of being stuck in the shelter.

They have implemented a social media program, and, have, for years, had adoptable animals featured on local television stations.

Young Williams has a good program for all these tasks, including very stringent Parvo tests, and immediate action to deal with the problem when it arises. They work very hard to do what can be done for the sick, injured, or otherwise traumatized animals, though vet care in house, and their foster program.

I do not know how involved they are, but they do have a surrender fee implemented, to ensure that people are serious about giving up their animal.

The shelter works to publicize animals in their care, and makes the adoption process fairly simple.
