Shelters are often inundated with pet surrenders, and do not want to provide a simple outlet that takes away the obligation of responsible pet ownership. Therefore, they would prefer that people try hard to find a solution before resorting to surrendering their pet to a shelter. If you must find a new home for a pet, please try posting to our adoption portal before placing the burden on the shelter. Direct adoptions work well and allow everyone to share in the accountability of their community!
No-kill shelters do wonderful work, but as a result, are often inundated with pet surrenders. In the unfortunate scenario that you have to find a new home for your pet, please read through the rehoming solution and articles on this page before contacting the shelter.

I contacted this organization today to inquire about adoption. Because I hadn’t adopted in many years, I asked about the fee. I stated that this was for my daughter. The respondent (director?) stated she was worried that my daughter couldn’t afford a dog. Admittedly, that bothered me because I had my reasons for questioning paying $300 for any dog. I asked her not to judge my reasons for inquiring or being hesitant. This person was extremely rude as you can see from the comments below. This was most definitely NOT a positive experience.
“Unbelievable that you would take that like I am judging you. I was only asking you to consider what it costs. But obviously you must already have a little bit of a problem with people trying to explain things to you.”
Me: don’t have a problem with hearing explanations. And mam - I appreciate that you do this for animals. I reacted when you suggested she couldn’t afford the dog - in your text. There are a lot of reasons why someone needs to think about paying for a dog. That being said, have a nice day.
“Just move on. I don't want to ever hear from you again.“
I would post the snapshot if I could. I’m not sure I would recommend this shelter because of this person, which is a shame for the animals there.
