I went to the store tonight to buy some yard signs to make "Lost Cat" notices for the neighborhood. When I got home around 9pm and was in the garage, I heard an unfamiliar meowing coming from somewhere outside — not a distressful meow, but one sounding frightened. Then I realized I had never really heard Joey meow before, except for the occasional "hello" vocalizations most cats do. When I walked around the side of the garage, I turned on my cellphone flashlight and saw Joey sitting on the stairs to the upper deck! He recognized me and my voice and let me approach him. I picked him up and I swear he purred louder than I've ever heard a cat purr! I held him for at least 15 minutes, which is longer than he's ever let me do before. When I brought him inside, the first thing he did was go straight to his food bowl (of course). My other cat,Tipper, seemed happy to see him — or at least she pretended to. (Joey teases her relentlessly, so she had a bit of a respite the past two days.) So, I want to give a very big "Thank You!" to all the neighbors who checked their property for Joey, and passed the word on to others. And also to the well-wishers here who offered advice and prayers. It was all very much appreciated. After the loss of two other cats only five weeks apart last year, I wasn't really prepared for more bad news, so this is really the happy ending I needed. Sincerely, Matt Hankinson P.S.: As I type this now, he is sitting in my lap grooming himself and — in typical cat fashion — is acting like nothing was wrong and is completely oblivious to the emotional anguish he put me through the last two days! (You cat lovers know exactly what I'm talking about.) 🙂
