Heaven Can Wait Animal Society does not yet have an adoption facility. Because of this, we can only take in as many dogs and cats as we have space for in foster homes. We are in need of expanding our foster network so we can save more animals' lives. If you are able to be a temporary parent to these homeless babies, please call HCWS today at 227-5555.

My baby Ellie got out last night at 8pm, near Washburn and N 5th. She is a small Maltese/poodle. With a brown and white face, long fur, and white on the top of her tail. Please contact me at 909-4620784.

My boy doobie just recently got out may 5th and I still haven't found him he's a blue Grey tri bully his name is doobie he has a collar with a tag and my number on it he was last seen on Jones and Bromley ( 95 north and jones) any info helps we want to bring him home please

hi! there is someone on craiglist free giving away little kittens there were in the garage they live off bonanza somewhere.they really look like they need to be bottle feed still if i can get they phone no could u plz go get these kittens they ppl are cat ppl plz let me know email me [email protected] ty i have 2 cats of my own just dnt want these tiny kittens going to ppl want these to feed they snakes

Hi, my name is Karen Ruppe and I live in West Wendover, NV. I have five 2-month old kittens that I need to find homes for and haven't had any luck. Due to my rental agreement, I'm only allowed to have two pets (the two mothers). I've managed to find homes for five of the ten kittens that I had, but it's at the point where I need to find other alternatives. Would the shelter possibly have room for them? They are litter-boxed trained and eating dry/wet food and very playful. If unable to take them in, can you offer any suggestions where I might seek help? I'm sick with guilt and feel that I'm abandoning them, but I need to do something. Thank you for any assistance you can offer. Hello I have a 8 month old Tibetan spaniel, lapso apso, shitzu mix puppy. Needs to be only dog. Is not socialized. Needs good loving home.

We found two 5 month old kittens. Female is silver/grey tabby, male is orange tabby. Very social loving kittens that love to play and cuddle. We need to find loving homes for one or both.

I have 3 seven week old kittens. I found them under a shed in North Las Vegas May 6th when my mom was moving. They were about 2 weeks old. I have bottle feed them and know they are all eating wet and dry food. I have 2 boys and one girl. I might keep one but that will be 3 in total. I already have 2 cats. One boy kitty is missing a foot and his other foot only have one toe. They are all doing great My cell is 702-371-4300 My name is Shannon Tolhurst and live in the NW part of town.

We love our cats very much, but we are relocati g to Tennessee, and we can't take the cats with us, we need to find a great home for them.. What do you need from us, because we leave next week.

3. Rescue Groups

An adoption or transfer to a rescue group frees up scarce cage and kennel space, reduces expenses for feeding, cleaning, killing, and improves a community's rate of lifesaving. In an environment of millions of dogs and cats killed in shelters annually, rare is the circumstance in which a rescue group should be denied an animal.

4. Foster Care

Volunteer foster care is crucial to No Kill. Without it, saving lives is compromised. It is a low cost, and often no cost, way of increasing a shelter's capacity, improving public relations, increasing a shelter's public image, rehabilitating sick and injured or behaviorally challenged animals, and saving lives.

5. Comprehensive Adoption Programs

Adoptions are vital to an agency's lifesaving mission. The quantity and quality of shelter adoptions is in shelter management's hands, making lifesaving a direct function of shelter policies and practice. In fact, studies show people get their animals from shelters only 20% of the time. If shelters better promoted their animals and had adoption programs responsive to the needs of the community, including public access hours for working people, offsite adoptions, adoption incentives, and effective marketing, they could increase the number of homes available and replace killing with adoptions. Contrary to conventional wisdom, shelters can adopt their way out of killing.

6. Pet Retention

While some of the reasons animals are surrendered to shelters are unavoidable, others can be prevented-but only if shelters are willing to work with people to help them solve their problems. Saving animals requires communities to develop innovative strategies for keeping people and their companion animals together. And the more a community sees its shelters as a place to turn for advice and assistance, the easier this job will be.

7. Medical and Behavior Programs

In order to meet its commitment to a lifesaving guarantee for all savable animals, shelters need to keep animals happy and healthy and keep animals moving through the system. To do this, shelters must put in place comprehensive vaccination, handling, cleaning, socialization, and care policies before animals get sick and rehabilitative efforts for those who come in sick, injured, unweaned, or traumatized.

8. Public Relations/Community Involvement

Increasing adoptions, maximizing donations, recruiting volunteers and partnering with community agencies comes down to one thing: increasing the shelter's exposure. And that means consistent marketing and public relations. Public relations and marketing are the foundation of all a shelter's activities and their success. To do all these things well, the shelter must be in the public eye.

9. Volunteers

Volunteers are a dedicated "army of compassion" and the backbone of a successful No Kill effort. There is never enough staff, never enough dollars to hire more staff, and always more needs than paid human resources. That is where volunteers come in and make the difference between success and failure and, for the animals, life and death.

10. Proactive Redemptions

One of the most overlooked areas for reducing killing in animal control shelters are lost animal reclaims. Sadly, besides having pet owners fill out a lost pet report, very little effort is made in this area of shelter operations. This is unfortunate because doing so-primarily shifting from passive to a more proactive approach-has proven to have a significant impact on lifesaving and allow shelters to return a large percentage of lost animals to their families.

11. A Compassionate Director

The final element of the No Kill equation is the most important of all, without which all other elements are thwarted-a hard working, compassionate animal control or shelter director not content to regurgitate tired cliches or hide behind the myth of "too many animals, not enough homes." Unfortunately, this one is also oftentimes the hardest one to demand and find.
