He has lived in two homes since arriving in America, but finds himself back at GPI. We really want to get him into a long-term foster home, or adoptive home, as soon as possible. According to the two families he has lived with, when Rebel first comes home he behaves more or less normally. But with a little time he discovers the home’s most comfortable places, such as sofas and human beds, which he then starts to claim as his own. He has also shown some resource guarding with food.Rebel needs a savvy, dog-experienced person who understands dog body language and resource guarding, and can provide him with the appropriate physical surroundings. He should have his own comfortable bed in each room to which he will have access so he won’t need to share the human furniture. He should also be physically blocked from comfy-looking furniture lest he try to claim it as his own, and be crated overnight or when left alone to prevent furniture invasions. With regard to his food guarding, GPI’s trainer has devised a safe feeding routine which his person will need to learn and follow. His home should be adults-only.Apart from the resource/space guarding issues, Rebel is a wonderful fellow with so much going for him. Talk about “tall, dark, and handsome”, this guy is slender and lanky, even by greyhound standards! He has the typical, simultaneously serene-yet-goofy greyhound personality. While Rebel doesn't seem to be big on playing with other dogs, he does enjoy canine companionship and having a turnout friend at GPI. He has even been a buddy/mentor for some of GPI's shy dogs, bravely showing these scaredy-dogs that people, doors, and outdoors are all good, safe things. But while he may be both compatible with and a good companion to a shy or calm dog, actually living with another dog could be problematic due to his guarding issues. He cannot live with cats or other small animals. As long as his handler is alert for possible resource and space issues, Rebel is a wonderful public companion who is very friendly and likes affection and attention. On leash he is happy to keep pace with you or chill as you catch up with a neighbor on a walk. He hops right in and out of big and small cars and is a calm passenger. Rebel would love to have a sponsor while he's in GPI's care. Adopt Rebel and Receive Rebel's Fund
Adopting a pet can be expensive, and we're trying to help by fundraising for each individual in need of adoption. After verifying the adoption, Rebel's new family will receive the funds that their pet has raised.
$0.0 is Rebel's current balance
The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. If you adopted the Rebel, thank you for providing a home and a loving family!
Please begin the process of claiming Rebel's contribution here.
For adoptions in which nokillnetwork.org was the matchmaker and we have contact information for both parties, we make every effort to contact the adopting family. For adoptions that were not facilitated by nokillnetwork.org, we still encourage the adopting family to claim the contribution by submitting the necessary information.
The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. The adopting family will be required to provide proof of adoption between 4-6 weeks after adoption. This is to ensure that the home is a good match and Rebel was not returned. After we have verified the adoption, Rebel’s balance will be sent to the adopting family. Our staff provides instructions and help throughout this process.
We want the Rebel’s balance to go to the adopting family as a way to say thank you for providing a loving home and to help with pet care expenses. In the unfortunate event we cannot contact them and verify the adoption, Rebel’s balance will remain in our general fund. This fund may be used to match contributions made to other adoptable pets, incentify other adoption-related actions, promote our mission, or support the operating expenses of nokillnetwork.org. If you would like to make a direct contribution to nokillnetwork.org to help us help other pets in need, you can go here. We appreciate your generosity and help!
