About this Dog

Kona is an ~8-year-old happy, healthy, 65-pound female Labrador Retriever/Brittany mix. She is spayed, microchipped, and has been a deeply loved member of our family for many years. Kona is an intelligent, loving, and incredibly affectionate dog who forms strong bonds with her people. She loves being part of daily life, enjoys outdoor adventures, learns quickly, and thrives on companionship. She is eager to please, highly trainable, and happiest when she is included in family activities.

Kona is best suited for a home without cats or children under approximately 15 years old. While she would be perfectly happy as the only dog in the home, she has also lived successfully for several years with another dog and would thrive in a home with another calm, well-socialized pup that is secure and comfortable sharing its home, is not overly assertive or possessive of its home or resources.

Kona enjoys being active but, at her age, does not require the level of exercise typically associated with high-energy sporting breeds or young puppies. She is happiest when she receives at least two 30-minute walks each day or other comparable physical and mental enrichment activities, followed by plenty of time relaxing with her family.

For over 6 years, Kona has regularly attended dog daycare and has been regularly cared for by a pup sitter who cares for multiple dogs of varying breeds and sizes in their home (open sleeping setup). Both the dog daycare and pup sitter have consistently shared that Kona does very well with other dogs in these settings and would be happy to provide references regarding her temperament and behavior.

The decision to rehome Kona has been extraordinarily difficult and follows years of dedication to her care, training, and well-being. Kona has brought immeasurable joy to her family, and the decision is driven entirely by a permanent change in our family's circumstances—not by a change in how her family feels about her or the life they hoped to continue sharing with her. Due to a diagnosis for an incurable and life changing medical condition affecting one of Kona's owners, they can no longer consistently provide the environment and attention she deserves. After careful consideration, finding the right home is the most responsible and compassionate decision for her long-term well-being. Her current family's greatest hope is to find Kona a calm, loving home where she can continue to thrive with adults or older teenagers who will appreciate her intelligence, loyalty, and affectionate personality. Kona's family is committed to providing complete medical records, behavioral history, daily routines, favorite activities, and ongoing support during the transition to help ensure her long-term success.

How will Kona receive the contribution?

The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. If you adopted the Kona, thank you for providing a home and a loving family! Please begin the process of claiming Kona's contribution here.

For adoptions in which nokillnetwork.org was the matchmaker and we have contact information for both parties, we make every effort to contact the adopting family. For adoptions that were not facilitated by nokillnetwork.org, we still encourage the adopting family to claim the contribution by submitting the necessary information.

The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. The adopting family will be required to provide proof of adoption between 4-6 weeks after adoption. This is to ensure that the home is a good match and Kona was not returned. After we have verified the adoption, Kona’s balance will be sent to the adopting family. Our staff provides instructions and help throughout this process.

What happens to unclaimed funds?

We want the Kona’s balance to go to the adopting family as a way to say thank you for providing a loving home and to help with pet care expenses. In the unfortunate event we cannot contact them and verify the adoption, Kona’s balance will remain in our general fund. This fund may be used to match contributions made to other adoptable pets, incentify other adoption-related actions, promote our mission, or support the operating expenses of nokillnetwork.org. If you would like to make a direct contribution to nokillnetwork.org to help us help other pets in need, you can go here. We appreciate your generosity and help!
