TAILS NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!! Come meet tails and other great adoptable dogs this Sunday (7/13) from 12-3 pm at the PetSmart in Rockville (5154 Nicholson Ln, Kensington, MD 20895)! Name: Tails Best Guess for Breed: Lab/Terrier Mix Best Guess for Age: 7 months as of July 2025 SEX: male Estimated Weight (He still has some growing to do!): 30 pounds as of 6/29/2025 Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen him with cats or younger kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters! Currently Living at: D.C. area foster home Special Adoption Considerations: Because Tails is shy, he needs to go to a home with a confident, welcoming resident dog who will show him the ropes. Tails is Looking For: Hiya! I'm Tails! I came to Lucky Dog as a puppy, with my brother, who has since been adopted . I'm still looking for a home that will let me play with toys and get my zoomies out and give me snuggles in between playtimes. When I'm a little older, I can't wait to explore my new neighborhood on lots of walks, and I'd really like to make a bunch of doggie friends along the way. Oh, and I should probably take a obedience class or two so I can show you how smart I am. What do you say? Do you have room in your heart for me? What My Foster Says About Me: Tails is the perfect blend of goof, adventurer and snuggle bug. He has an adorable snore like a tiny grandpa, and a tail that wags so hard it sends his whole butt into a happy dance! He’s a pro at curling up next to you for a cozy evening of TV time and belly rubs. He has been mastering his crate-training by going into his crate, sleeping through the night like a champ and always being ready to start each day for adventure. He loves his walks, exploring new places, and showing off his zooms at the dog park, and will come back quickly—especially if treats are involved! Peanut butter Kongs and chew bones are his absolute favorite. Tails is a smart, eager pup who knows “sit,” “down,” “come,” and “crate,” and he follows through about 85% of the time (the other 15% is reserved for being adorably selective). He’s working on his leash skills and can sometimes walk like he’s auditioning for a sled team, but with a little more training, he'll be consistently strolling smoothly like a pro. Tails has been waiting so patiently for his forever family, and he’s ready to bring endless butt wiggles, laughs, and love to a home of his own. TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $460, which includes the cost of routine vetting and transport from the shelter. Adopting a pet can be expensive, and we're trying to help by fundraising for each individual in need of adoption. After verifying the adoption, Tails's new family will receive the funds that their pet has raised.

For adoptions in which nokillnetwork.org was the matchmaker and we have contact information for both parties, we make every effort to contact the adopting family. For adoptions that were not facilitated by nokillnetwork.org, we still encourage the adopting family to claim the contribution by submitting the necessary information.
The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. The adopting family will be required to provide proof of adoption between 4-6 weeks after adoption. This is to ensure that the home is a good match and Tails was not returned. After we have verified the adoption, Tails’s balance will be sent to the adopting family. Our staff provides instructions and help throughout this process.
We want the Tails’s balance to go to the adopting family as a way to say thank you for providing a loving home and to help with pet care expenses. In the unfortunate event we cannot contact them and verify the adoption, Tails’s balance will remain in our general fund. This fund may be used to match contributions made to other adoptable pets, incentify other adoption-related actions, promote our mission, or support the operating expenses of nokillnetwork.org.
