About this Dog
MARY ELLEN NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!! Come meet Mary Ellen and other great adoptable dogs this Sunday (08/03) from 12-3 pm at the PetSmart in Alexandria (3351 Richmond Highway, Alexandria, VA 22305)! Name: Mary Ellen Best Guess for Breed: German shepherd mix Best Guess for Age: 5 years as of June 2025 SEX: Female Approximate Weight: 70 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen her with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters! Currently Living at: DC area foster home Special adoption considerations: Mary Ellen is a truly Lucky Dog. She tested positive for heartworms, but landed in a place where heartworm treatment is provided! Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites. Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. Heartworm dogs can resume full active and normal lives, but need to be kept calm for 4-6 weeks after treatment. We are happy to discuss where in the treatment process this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left! Mary Ellen is Looking For: Sweet Mary Ellen was a wonderful mother to her puppies Olivia and Ben, and they went off to get their forever homes. Now she gets to start searching for her own humans and lavish all that love and affection upon them. German Shepherds get deeply attached to their people - they're known as Velcro dogs for a reason. Mary Ellen is well out of the puppy yips and as a typical GSD, knows that having her own people, being safe and loved and under her own roof is the most important thing. She's ready to be by your side on all your adventures, offering loyal companionship for all her days. What do you say? Will you be the lucky recipient? Does Mary Ellen start her new chapter with you? What My Foster Says About Me: Mary Ellen is an absolute sweet heart. She loves attention and is happy to sit next to you and be petted all day - which is easy to do because she has the softest fur. She is still adjusting a bit and wants me in sight as much as possible, but it’s only been a few days. She loves her treats - and is an expert at sniffing them out, so probably highly trainable. Overall, she is just a beautiful girl! Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken. All of our dogs are working on their crate training. TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment. If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption. Adopt Mary Ellen and Receive Mary Ellen's Fund
Adopting a pet can be expensive, and we're trying to help by fundraising for each individual in need of adoption. After verifying the adoption, Mary Ellen's new family will receive the funds that their pet has raised.
$0.0 is Mary Ellen's current balance
The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. If you adopted the Mary Ellen, thank you for providing a home and a loving family!
Please begin the process of claiming Mary Ellen's contribution here.
For adoptions in which nokillnetwork.org was the matchmaker and we have contact information for both parties, we make every effort to contact the adopting family. For adoptions that were not facilitated by nokillnetwork.org, we still encourage the adopting family to claim the contribution by submitting the necessary information.
The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. The adopting family will be required to provide proof of adoption between 4-6 weeks after adoption. This is to ensure that the home is a good match and Mary Ellen was not returned. After we have verified the adoption, Mary Ellen’s balance will be sent to the adopting family. Our staff provides instructions and help throughout this process.
We want the Mary Ellen’s balance to go to the adopting family as a way to say thank you for providing a loving home and to help with pet care expenses. In the unfortunate event we cannot contact them and verify the adoption, Mary Ellen’s balance will remain in our general fund. This fund may be used to match contributions made to other adoptable pets, incentify other adoption-related actions, promote our mission, or support the operating expenses of nokillnetwork.org. If you would like to make a direct contribution to nokillnetwork.org to help us help other pets in need, you can go here. We appreciate your generosity and help!
