Name: Merphy Best Guess for Breed: Chihuahua mix Best Guess for Age: 5 years as of August 2025 SEX: Male Approximate Weight: 14.4 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen him with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters! Currently Living at: Rural shelter; needs a foster or forever home in the DC area to get here! Special adoption considerations: In certain home settings -- where the environment might be loud or more intense -- this dog would do better with another dog in the home to give him confidence. Right now they're unsure what happened and are a little bit confused - they take just a bit of time to warm up but once they do, aw, they're cute, happy pups. They're both great little pups and don't need to go to a home together. Merphy is a great age. Solidly adult - out of the nutty puppy yips - and has all that wonderful dog energy (small dogs live pretty long!) for sniffy walks and world exploration and all that good stuff. For adoptions in which nokillnetwork.org was the matchmaker and we have contact information for both parties, we make every effort to contact the adopting family. For adoptions that were not facilitated by nokillnetwork.org, we still encourage the adopting family to claim the contribution by submitting the necessary information.
The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. The adopting family will be required to provide proof of adoption between 4-6 weeks after adoption. This is to ensure that the home is a good match and Merphy was not returned. After we have verified the adoption, Merphy’s balance will be sent to the adopting family. Our staff provides instructions and help throughout this process.
We want the Merphy’s balance to go to the adopting family as a way to say thank you for providing a loving home and to help with pet care expenses. In the unfortunate event we cannot contact them and verify the adoption, Merphy’s balance will remain in our general fund. This fund may be used to match contributions made to other adoptable pets, incentify other adoption-related actions, promote our mission, or support the operating expenses of nokillnetwork.org.
