About this Dog
CHARLIE - 15 months old, 75 + pounds, house trained, dog tolerant Charlie arrived at VBACAC after he started guarding important items from his family. He is a big boy, 75+ pounds, who has bright white teeth, deep black and tan fur and a great smile. Charlie is nervous with new people but warms up quickly. I met him in the playgroup yard and he almost immediately approached me, sniffed and started licking my hands. Within a short time he would run to me after being pushed a bit too hard from another dog and sit on my feet leaning against me. He is young and needs training. We are doing some at the shelter and see this boy is eager to please you. He's smart, loves to chase tennis balls, and loves toys. Puppies use their mouths a lot and Charlie is no different. The mouthiness can be managed with training, tug toy play and treats. He can be trusted free to roam with his family but is used to a crate when left alone. He is scared of loud noises and is known to guard items he finds important. The guarding can be managed as well by an owner willing to put time in training. Charlie is dog tolerant. He does need some time getting used to other friendly well-balanced and respectful dogs. We are seeing him come out of his shell from scampering to a safe spot and growling if another dog gets too close to actually running, chasing, and playing with others. He also has moved from not allowing other dogs to sniff him to letting others get close and sniff. Charlie is currently in a back kennel so if you come in to meet him and don't see him, please just ask. *Please do your research on Rottweilers and German Shepherds before considering adopting. Both have specific breed characteristics which you should make sure align with your family's lifestyle.

Our staff provides instructions and help throughout this process.
We want the 178070 Charlie’s balance to go to the adopting family as a way to say thank you for providing a loving home and to help with pet care expenses. In the unfortunate event we cannot contact them and verify the adoption, 178070 Charlie’s balance will remain in our general fund. This fund may be used to match contributions made to other adoptable pets, incentify other adoption-related actions, promote our mission, or support the operating expenses of nokillnetwork.org.
