About this Dog
OREO - 1-5 years old, 40 pounds, active Oreo has seen the revolving shelter door a couple times. He is a smart and active boy who does zoomies like a champ. He has been nervous in the shelter kennel. It has taken time for him to trust us. We use slow and proper introductions which might be good to remember for outside the shelter environment as well. Oreo can be a handful on a leash as his excitement leads to jumping, grabbing and tugging on the leash. I was able to get him in the yard where I dropped my end of the leash. He took off! Zoomies galore…with the leash in his mouth! After a few minutes, that off-the-chart zooming slowed. He finally took some treats. He finally started to investigate the yard. He enjoyed some more tugging with an actual tug toy. He sat for treats and took treats gently. Oreo needs adventure. He needs activity, playtime and exercise. He needs leash work. Daily training would do wonders for you all - encouraging positive behaviors and creating & strengthening a bond between you. We tried him in our shelter gentle and dainty playgroup. He was and will continue to be muzzled to be on the safe side. He seems dog tolerant in that he could handle some of the dogs but also had difficulty regulating his own responses and reactions to others. Oreo thus might be best as an only pet. Oreo seems like he’d do well with kids. Again we stress constant supervision until everyone is comfortable and confident all will be good. Oreo is in our medium dog adoption kennel waiting to meet you!
