About this Dog
FOSTER UPDATE: Max (Maximus) has been in foster with us for well over a year. While he is cute, sweet and goofy, Max is not for everyone. Max deals with high anxiety and separation anxiety (he's not destructive), and has very sensitive hearing (which escalates his anxiety). He exhibits his anxiety and sensitivity to noises by barking, whining and pacing until the cause of the anxiety disappears or he is otherwise comforted. He will not do well in a noisy home, which includes homes with young children (their natural exuberance and toys would be too much for him). He will not do well in a condo, townhouse, or other multi-family housing; and he will not do well near a busy street (too much noise). Max would like his fur-ever person to be with him a lot (he wants to go everywhere his person goes), and, if his person does have to leave him, he would prefer his fur-ever home to have a doggy companion (who tolerates his anxiety) to comfort him. Max does better when he has a routine. He is house-trained, loves frozen pup cups and belly rubs, enjoys car rides, loves walks (he would probably love someone to teach him how to run a few miles on quiet running trails each morning, which may help with his anxiety) and exploring (the hound in him necessitates stopping to smell everything), and he just really wants to be with his person (whether being a couch potato, or getting out and about; however, this also means he is going to get underfoot as he will want to follow his person if he thinks his person is leaving him). Max does not like being surprised by unknown people "just appearing" (e.g., people working drive-thru windows, curbside grocery pickup employees loading groceries in the back of the car, people appearing on the front porch, etc.), and while he gets along with other dogs and loves attention from people, he does not like people walking dogs (yet does fine in stores, at festivals, etc. where there are lots of people escorting their pups (this may be because he sees them first/approaches them, as opposed to them “just appearing”)). He is an all-American mutt, and his DNA results identified 15 different breeds: Norwegian Elkhound (30%), Chi. (17%), Labrador Retriever (15%), Rat Terrier (10%), Treeing Walker Coonhound (4%), American Hairless Terrier (3%), Toy Fox Terrier (3%), Flat-Coated Retriever (3%), Plott Hound (3%), American Foxhound (2%), Miniature American Shepherd (2%), Dandie Dinmont Terrier (2%), Parson Russell Terrier (2%), MinPin (2%), and Portuguese Podengo Pequeno (2%).
